Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

Our small business is based out of our home in Kingston, Nova Scotia. Local orders can be picked up at our home at 28 Marilyn Court.

Do you do custom orders?

I do take custom orders. If you have a request for an item in the Shoppe in a different size, shape or colour, or some other variation, or an item that is out of stock, please email me at pineandpeoniesshoppe@gmail.com with your request. I sometimes take commissioned custom orders for items that are not currently in the Shoppe as well. Please email me with these requests as well and I will let you know if this is something that I can fulfill and provide a quote.

What if the item I want is out of stock?

If I’ve made it before, I can almost always make It again! Please email me through the contact form and I will happily get back to you to discuss if and when I can make this happen for you! I am a one-woman show, so sometimes the item stock has just not been updated or I may need to just order supplies to make it for you.

Are the materials you use non toxic?

We use hardwood for most of our products and mainly choose art materials that have an AP (approved product) seal to identify them as certified non toxic by ACMI. We use beeswax and mineral oil to coat unfinished wood.

Although we use these materials, it is not recommended to allow children to chew on or mouth our products.

Are all of your items consistent?

We hand paint all of our products, and there are variances in each individual piece of wood. Because of the nature of these handmade items, there may be minor variances between products. Each item is truly one of a kind.

Colours can also vary slightly from screens to seeing a product in-person. Please take this into consideration when ordering.

The listing photo is an example - due to the hand crafted nature of my work, each piece is unique. An exact copy is impossible. Design and shades will vary slightly between each one of a kind piece. Exact dimensions of play mats vary some for each piece as wool shrinkage during the felting process is difficult to predict.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping rates are shown at check-out. We offer free local pickup in Kingston, Nova Scotia.

Do you ship outside of Canada?

We presently ship to Canada and the United States. In the future we may expand our shipping footprint.

How long does it take to fulfill an order?

Some orders will be shipped within 2 business days or ready for pickup within 24 hours. However, many of our products are made-to-order. Made-to-order products that require more time have a notation under the product listing with the information. Some of these special orders can take up to 2 to 4 weeks to fulfill. If you have questions about how long an order will take, please send me a message and I will give you a more accurate estimate based on current shop wait times.

How do I care for and clean my purchased pieces?

Wooden toys are sealed or varnished and can be wiped gently with a damp cloth to clean. We use non toxic clear coats which help with durability but like all painted wood, the paint can chip with rough play.

Our wool items are intended for gentle play. Details such as grasses, mushrooms or tree stumps on our play mats are attached using various methods including needle felting and/or gluing or hand stitching, but can be removed with rough play. These should be used with supervision and not by those who have a risk of mouthing objects as these pieces would pose a choking hazard if ingested. For cleaning, wool has good stain resistant properties, so gently patting dry any messes immediately is best. For spot cleaning, use a bit of mild soap and cold water to very gently rub any stains. To remove any soap remaining, dampen a lint free rag in clean cold water and very gently rub the spot again as required. Press a dry towel into the spot to remove excess water, and then air dry.

What if I am not happy with my order?

Because the majority of our products are made-to-order, we do not offer regular returns or cancellations. If for some reason you are unhappy with the quality of your order, please contact us at pineandpeoniesshoppe@gmail.com or the contact form and we can discuss any issues. Please always be sure to check the product descriptions to ensure you understand what you are ordering. Some items are small in size, particularly the small world play collection, and dimensions for products are listed in the descriptions.
